A headset designed to bridge the gap between the 40-series and 110-series headsets. Hellbender 70 has all the design characteristics, sealing elements, and stainless steel Hellbender bearings found on a premium 110-series headset, at a price closer to a 40-series. With a cleaner aesthetic, Hellbender 70 offers a very high level of durability with a look to complement modern builds.
Highlights:
Need help choosing the right headset?
Machined from 6061 T-6 aluminum with a bright-dip black anodized finish, and features a low-friction upper bearing seal and a double-lip lower bearing seal that combine to completely seal cups from external contaminants – delivering exceptional durability and reliability previously limited to our premium 110 series.
The Hellbender 70 also includes our premium stainless steel Hellbender bearing – specifically designed and tested to withstand heavy-duty use and extreme environmental conditions.
The Hellbender bearings are built to live in the most extreme conditions, keeping you riding smoothly through rain, mud, grit or whatever the road and trail throws at you. Using Stainless Steel bearings and advanced sealing elements.
Our patented Interlok spacer design provides solid interface between the top cover and spacer stack, meaning they “nest” together and into the top of the bearing cover, which helps minimize shifting under load while riding; and shave 25% in weight off a standard alloy spacer stack. Spacers sold separately
“Here’s a secret: the Hellbender70 headset works just as well as our legendary 110. If you don’t want to pay for the higher polished finish and satisfaction guarantee that comes with the 110, the Hellbender70 is your choice. The heart of a headset is the bearing, and the 110 and Hellbender70 both use the same durable Hellbender bearings.”
In 1992, we brought the Aheadset®, the original threadless headset, to market – kicking off a major change in the way bicycle frames and forks would be developed going forward.
The original design of that revolutionary headset is still found in almost all bikes on the market today.

Obviously, one could buy a higher end headset, but the hellbender 70 is everything I need and nothing I don't. It's on at least 5 bikes in my garage.

I didn’t end up using the headset (decided my bike needed to be a little more slack, so I ordered and angle adjust headset). However, the quality is up to the typical Cane Creek standard (I’ve got a DB Air IL on my pedal bike which is awesome!) and I have no doubt it would have performed flawlessly and lasted the lifetime of my bike.
