Q & A

Hi, i have a Surly Krampus with 73mm BSA BB. I just odered the Hellbender BB. I am now a bit confused. The old Sram BSA DUB BB has on the right side (drive) a 4.5mm spacer for the crank. The Hellbender has just a 3 mm spacer. do i need to add another additional 1,5mm spacer, to match and maintain the width and the CL ? Martin asked on June 21, 2024

Hello, we would recommended measuring the BSA Cups width (Ours vs SRAMS) to confirm they are the same, if they are the same width, then yes, you would need to use 4.5mm in spacers on the drive side to obtain the same fitment.

Andy Bennett answered on June 21, 2024 store manager

Ok, thx for the answer. The CC Hellbender is 97,3 mm installed width incl that one spacer included and the Sram BB is incl that 4,5mm spacer 99.6 mm. So i will add another 2,5 mm spacer to the Hellbender to have almost a perfect fit.

I have a Surly Big Fat Dummy with a RaceFace X-type BB. Looking to upgrade to a more impervious and longer lasting BB. The frame spacing is 100mm. Do you have a BB that would fit? Eric asked on March 23, 2024

Hello, yes, our BSA Threaded Bottom Bracket will work with a 100mm, you will not be able to use the inner sleeve, however, the cups will thread in just fine.

Can the BB30-24 BB be used in an 83mm BB30 frame? I have a 2018 S-Works Demo with 42x83mm shell. Is the thread long enough to have good engagement in a wider shell? Duck asked on March 5, 2024

Hello, yes, our BB30 can be used with a 83mm BB Shell/Frame.

Can /I covert a hellbender 70 to 110 later on paul asked on January 7, 2024

The two headsets use the same bearings and sealing, so performance-wise they are nearly identical. The main difference in cost is the quality of the finsih, and laser details on the 110 cover and cups as well as the lifetime guarantee that we sell with the 110 series products. You can think of the decision to purchase a 110 vs a 70 series as the decision to purchase the lifetime insurance policy for your headset :)

Very good quality however my bb didn't include a sleeve. Since it was a press fit, it only included the cups- which I guess is fine but perhaps the price could be lowered. If I had a threaded BB, I'd get a sleeve- but it's still the same price. Maybe I'm nitpicking.
