Great bottom bracket. Ridiculous they don't include the spacer kit kit for the price point. Probably wouldn't order another on principal. Most others do include spacers for common 73mm shells. LAME!

  1. It’s a threaded bottom bracket, so it works. However, for $125 some spacers should be thrown in to account for 68/73mm shells. What is $5 in spacers compared to reducing customer frustration? Other BBs come with the spacers. Also, why are there two spacer kits? One is more expensive with less spacers. That makes no sense. Come on Cane Creek, this is e-Commerce 101 and you’re not passing.

Q & A

I have a Surly Big Fat Dummy with a RaceFace X-type BB. Looking to upgrade to a more impervious and longer lasting BB. The frame spacing is 100mm. Do you have a BB that would fit? Eric asked on March 23, 2024

Hello, yes, our BSA Threaded Bottom Bracket will work with a 100mm, you will not be able to use the inner sleeve, however, the cups will thread in just fine.

Can the BB30-24 BB be used in an 83mm BB30 frame? I have a 2018 S-Works Demo with 42x83mm shell. Is the thread long enough to have good engagement in a wider shell? Duck asked on March 5, 2024

Hello, yes, our BB30 can be used with a 83mm BB Shell/Frame.

Can /I covert a hellbender 70 to 110 later on paul asked on January 7, 2024

The two headsets use the same bearings and sealing, so performance-wise they are nearly identical. The main difference in cost is the quality of the finsih, and laser details on the 110 cover and cups as well as the lifetime guarantee that we sell with the 110 series products. You can think of the decision to purchase a 110 vs a 70 series as the decision to purchase the lifetime insurance policy for your headset :)

What bottom bracket for a 2016 Trek Domane 2.0. I hear about a proprietary BB for Trek. I know that it is PF. Scott Ahner asked on December 7, 2023

Though I could not objectively find bottom bracket specs on this bike, I believe this is a Trek BB90 frame. This is a proprietary bottom bracket standard that Trek produced for a number of years, and unfortunately, not one that we have a solution for.

Will any of the BB30 options for the Hellbender 70 bottom backets fit my Cannondale Topstone Carbon 2021? Will I need any additional spacer kits and if yes, how many? As I read on the web that Cannondale uses a BB30AI/83 with a 43 diameter. Thanks! Mikhail asked on November 26, 2023

Unfortunately, our Hellbender 70 BB30 bottom bracket is not compatible with this proprietary offset BB30a interface, and since our BB30 bearings are housed outside of the frame, the Cannondale crankset that comes on that bike would not fit. (Spindle too narrow)

I still haven’t installed it because it didn’t come with the required spindle spacers and I needed to order them separately from another company, an extra $25. Customer service could not help me figure out which spacers were even needed, just told me to visit my local bike shop. Also, the bottom bracket was shipped out assembled incorrectly with one of the seals on backwards, as shown in the image.

The Hellbender BB has been a rugged performer that still spins as smooth as the first day on my Ripmo. Cane Creek has a reputation of providing top quality components and excellent customer service. The Hellbender BB definitely lives up to that reputation.
