Forty

Setting The Standard

Featuring a full alloy construction – sealed cartridge bearings, 6000 series alloy cups and materials, and a sealed steel crown race, the Forty series headset sets the standard for all other headsets to be judged.

Cane Creek Zn40 headset bearings

ZN40 Bearings

The ZN40 bearings are corrosion-resistant zinc-coated, machined steel cartridge bearings with hardened steel balls, which vastly increases the longevity of the 40 series headsets.

Forty Series Headset

Interlok® Spacer Compatible

Our patented Interlok spacer design provides solid interface between the top cover and spacer stack, meaning they “nest” together and into the top of the bearing cover, which helps minimize shifting under load while riding; and shave 25% in weight off a standard alloy spacer stack. Spacers sold separately

Cane Creek Headsets

A Legacy of Innovation

In 1992, we brought the Aheadset®, the original threadless headset, to market – kicking off a major change in the way bicycle frames and forks would be developed going forward.

The original design of that revolutionary headset is still found in almost all bikes on the market today.

Q & A

Will these fit on my talaria with bomber 58s? Ronin Harris asked on September 28, 2023

I'm not sure which product you are referring to but if you are asking about the 40 Series headsets, yes these will fit on your Luna Talaria. I am not sure what size headset you need as Luna does not offer this information. You can try to call them, or take it to the dealer you purchased the bike from and they can help you size the headset.

What replacement crown race do I need for my transition rapture? It has a Cane Creek 40 headset 44 mm Zero Stack (Top), External (Bottom), 1 1/8” steel fork Michael Fargy asked on September 27, 2023

If using a straight 1-1/8" fork you need the 52/30mm crown race. Part number: BAA0009S

Which headset bearings would fit a 2016 GT Grade? Any guidance would be appreciated. Thanks! brandon asked on September 18, 2023

I could not find any information on the GT Grade other than its listed as using "integrated TH sealed cartridge bearings". This means it is an integrated headset so likely using either 41mm bearings, or 42mm bearings. Both are common in integrated headsets...I suggest going to your local bike shop and they can measure your bearings and make sure you order the correct ones. We have the correct bearings, but without measuring I cannot tell you which size you need.

Which headset should I be purchasing? I have a rockhopper 2022 sport. Specialized says the headset currently is "1/8" Zero Stack 44 bearings" Would I use the EC44/40 – Bottom, to allow for Tapered fork? Thanks! Will K asked on September 18, 2023

That is correct. Your 2022 Rockhopper uses a 44mm internal diameter (ID) head tube. To use a tapered fork you will need to replace just the lower headset with an EC44/40 headset.

What headset should I purchase for my 2012 Santa Cruz Chameleon so that I can run a tapered fork? Appreciate any input, thank you :) John asked on September 16, 2023

Your 2012 Chameleon uses a 34mm ID (inner diameter) head tube. To use a tapered fork, you need a minimum 44mm ID head tube. Unfortunately you cannot use a tapered fork on your Chameleon.

Working great, only point of improvement would be to explicitly say in the product listing that the lower comes with a crown race. (Which may be obvious to everyone who’s ever ordered a headset part before, but I’m a first timer)

Best part of being a part of the Cane Creek family:  It’s very refreshing to work for a small, tight-knit company where we all share the same passions and to develop new products that make cycling better for everyone.
What you’ll find me doing on the weekends: Obviously riding bikes, but also wrenching on bikes or cars, exploring the mountains, and watching F1 races.
How I got here (at Cane Creek): Feeling pretty unfulfilled with a corporate engineering job, I happened to see that Cane Creek was hiring. I jumped at the opportunity to get my hands dirty working on the latest bike tech and was fortunate enough to be offered the position.
