Hellbender 70

Durable and Refined

A headset designed to bridge the gap between the 40-series and 110-series headsets. Hellbender 70 has all the design characteristics, sealing elements, and stainless steel Hellbender bearings found on a premium 110-series headset, at a price closer to a 40-series. With a cleaner aesthetic, Hellbender 70 offers a very high level of durability with a look to complement modern builds.

Highlights:

  • Machined from 6061 T-6 aluminum
  • Low-friction upper bearing seal and a double-lip lower bearing seal
  • Premium stainless steel Hellbender bearing
  • Bright-dip anodized finish

Hellbender 70

Precision - Quality - Value

Machined from 6061 T-6 aluminum with a bright-dip black anodized finish, and features a low-friction upper bearing seal and a double-lip lower bearing seal that combine to completely seal cups from external contaminants – delivering exceptional durability and reliability previously limited to our premium 110 series.

The Hellbender 70 also includes our premium stainless steel Hellbender bearing – specifically designed and tested to withstand heavy-duty use and extreme environmental conditions.

Hellbender Bearings

The Hellbender bearings are built to live in the most extreme conditions, keeping you riding smoothly through rain, mud, grit or whatever the road and trail throws at you. Using Stainless Steel bearings and advanced sealing elements.

Interlok® Spacer Compatible

Our patented Interlok spacer design provides solid interface between the top cover and spacer stack, meaning they “nest” together and into the top of the bearing cover, which helps minimize shifting under load while riding; and shave 25% in weight off a standard alloy spacer stack. Spacers sold separately

“Here’s a secret: the Hellbender70 headset works just as well as our legendary 110. If you don’t want to pay for the higher polished finish and satisfaction guarantee that comes with the 110, the Hellbender70 is your choice. The heart of a headset is the bearing, and the 110 and Hellbender70 both use the same durable Hellbender bearings.”

A Legacy of Innovation

In 1992, we brought the Aheadset®, the original threadless headset, to market – kicking off a major change in the way bicycle frames and forks would be developed going forward.

The original design of that revolutionary headset is still found in almost all bikes on the market today.

The Hellbender 70s are certainly a much more durable option!

I bought a used Fezzari La Sal Peak (2022) frame. It has the Cane Creek 40 ZS44/56 cups. Instead of piecing together the rest of the parts needed, I’d like to upgrade to the Hellbender set. I’m going blind scrolling through your pick list lol. Just tell me what to order! Thanks! Linda Green asked on November 3, 2023

You need part #BAA1186K for the Hellbender 70 ZS44/ZS56. We have this now available in several color options with our Chroma Studio.

Does a complete 70-series headset come with the compatible crown race, or do I need to purchase one separately? Blue Johnson asked on August 30, 2023

Yes the Hellbender 70 headset will come with the crown race for a 1.5" tapered fork. We offer conversion crown races for straight 1-1/8" and tapered 1-1/4" forks as well.

Can I buy just the headset cups? I have a brand new hellbender 70. I pressed the cups into one frame and then decided to build up another frame instead. Would be nice to replace the cups without buying a whole new headset. Michael asked on August 8, 2023

We do not offer the Hellbender 70 cups as single items but we do offer 40 series cups and you can use the Hellbender bearings in a 40 Series cup. You need to also have a 40 series bearing cover but we do have the cups as single items.

You can also remove the Hellbender 70 cups and reinstall them if you need to.

Give us a call or email Support@canecreek.com and we can help.

Hi, I wonder if the Hell Bender bearing fits the Forty cup? I'm running the Forty zs44/56 and want to upgrade the bearing. Quy asked on July 31, 2023

It sure does. All of our bearings are the same dimensionally. just make sure to choose the correct contact angles which for 44/56 are 36°x45°.

Best part of being a part of the Cane Creek family:  It’s very refreshing to work for a small, tight-knit company where we all share the same passions and to develop new products that make cycling better for everyone.
What you’ll find me doing on the weekends: Obviously riding bikes, but also wrenching on bikes or cars, exploring the mountains, and watching F1 races.
How I got here (at Cane Creek): Feeling pretty unfulfilled with a corporate engineering job, I happened to see that Cane Creek was hiring. I jumped at the opportunity to get my hands dirty working on the latest bike tech and was fortunate enough to be offered the position.
