Swept back handlebars works poorly with the EESilk+ stem. I am using the Alee Denham Koga handlebar with this stem. Similar to Moloko and Jones handlebars When the hands are on the handgrips, the stem barely moves, when the hands are on the bullhorns then yes it works fine. The stem will behave differently depending on the distance of the hands in relation to the center point of rotation of the stem The rating is for sweptback handlebars

Really nice compliance and I love the adjustability. Turned my gravel bike into a bike that far more capable on really rough roads or even lighter MTB trails. Read my Strava summary for my thoughts.

  1. I bought a 80 with compliance switch for my wife, she loves the soft ride feel over rough roads. After hearing her positive comments and seeing first-had how well the stem is works (it’s very high-quality), I bought one for myself. It’s a little overkill for smooth paved road use, but on dirt roads and washboard, this stem works quite well…okay, washboard still sucks, but it’s not as bad. Note, the compliance switch is not a full lock-out, it simply provides two levels of stiffness. To be honest, I just leave mine in its stiffest mode, so I would’ve been happy with the simple non-switchable version. It’s not for everybody, nor is it ideal for every road condition, but front suspension is always a good thing on rough terrain. In short, it takes a little bit to get used to if your coming from the stiff-loving roadie circuit, it’s overkill on smooth roads, it’s great for most gravel situations, and not for hard-core single-track (but to be fair, it wasn’t designed for that). Remember, it’s not going to compete with a suspension fork, but I recommend if you’re looking to increase comfort.

  4. Does a great job of taming frost heaves on Green Bay concrete roads and as a bonus provides some basic gravel capabilities to my sportive and 55 year old hands.

Q & A

Does it fit a canyon Grizl 31.8 mm handlebar? Niv Keren asked on September 1, 2023

The stem clamp diameter for the eeSilk stem is 31.8 so as long as the handlebar is round at the stem clamp it should work.

Ben Rea answered on September 6, 2023 store manager

As I just found out a canyon Grizl cf sl has a steerer tube of 1 1/4 not 1 1/8 so it will fit your bars but not your bike.

Hey kids, how can someone in the atl/ n ga area demo a stem? I’m sure I’ll enjoy the Cush and switch ability. Just not sure about the play/ flex and ruggedness of it. And the weight, it’s gonna be lighter than a fork! Thx. Larry Crook asked on August 26, 2023

We have dealers all over the country that can order parts for you but I do not know of any bike shop, specifically, that has Demo eeSilk products in GA. If you have a bike shop you frequent often, have them give us a call and we'd be happy to help with Demo products if they are interested...

Why is it not offered in 110mm - probably the most widely used stem length on the market? Erik D. asked on August 3, 2023

The eeSilk Stem was designed for use on Gravel and All Road bikes primarily. While it works great on most any bicycle that can benefit from increased compliance, modern Gravel bikes have a longer reach and shorter stem on average, and most are coming OEM equipped with 80mm - 100mm stems. When we decided which lengths to offer we had to look at what both current and future bikes will require. Many are now coming with 70mms stems so Gravel geometry is changing to longer Reach measurements, requiring shorter stems.

Will the eeSilk stem work on swept back handlebars? John asked on July 18, 2023

The eeSilk Stem was designed for drop bar bikes but can work well with flat bars as well. Handlebars with a lot of sweep should work fine but you may have to try several elastomers to achieve the best performance for you riding style. The eeSilk Stem does come with several elastomers to try.

Not recommended. I am using the Alee Denham Koga handlebar with this stem.
When the hands are on the handgrips, the stem barely moves, when the hands are on the bull horns then works fine but no brakes. Even using softer elastomer did not improve

Is it possible to convert a stem with compliance switch to one without? Also, another vote/request for a 70mm! Brian Simmons asked on July 5, 2023

No, the eeSilk Stem's compliance switch (CS) is integrated into the stem. You can set the stem in the climb position and remove the switch so its not useable. Or, we now offer the eeSilk stem without the CS.

Great stem and better than expected. Compliance switch is very effective and product really smooths out the ride when needed, while being able to climb with the stiffer setting. Would highly recommend.

Very compliant, and the adjustability means I can ride road/hard pack without power loss, but switch it to soft and hit pothole ridden gravel roads and even some MTB trails. Far better than the other ‘red’ company stem I returned.
