Our 40-Series headset is the entry point for performance, quality, and value. Drawing from the premium 110-Series design, the 40-Series includes all the features necessary for a durable, lightweight, and easy to use headset.
Highlights:
We make headsets easier. Our headsets use interchangeable parts and over forty configurations to meet almost every size need. Sold in straight and tapered assemblies or tops & bottoms, tops are generally available in either short (9mm) or tall (15mm) bearing covers to further customize the look of your cockpit setup.
Looking to add some color? Check out the Hellbender 70 in Chroma Studio.
*Our ZN40 bearings (used in all 40 Series headsets) can feel rough in hand initially. This is a necessary side effect of the corrosion-resistant zinc coating used on the balls and races. This initial roughness wears in, becoming smoother with use, and extends the overall lifespan of the bearings.
Featuring a full alloy construction – sealed cartridge bearings, 6000 series alloy cups and materials, and a sealed steel crown race, the Forty series headset sets the standard for all other headsets to be judged.
The ZN40 bearings are corrosion-resistant zinc-coated, machined steel cartridge bearings with hardened steel balls, which vastly increases the longevity of the 40 series headsets.
Our patented Interlok spacer design provides solid interface between the top cover and spacer stack, meaning they “nest” together and into the top of the bearing cover, which helps minimize shifting under load while riding; and shave 25% in weight off a standard alloy spacer stack. Spacers sold separately
In 1992, we brought the Aheadset®, the original threadless headset, to market – kicking off a major change in the way bicycle frames and forks would be developed going forward.
The original design of that revolutionary headset is still found in almost all bikes on the market today.

Indestructible. This is my second set . My first set was the hellbender I had those headset bearing for 5 years and was still turning smooth. Now I got a new bike and I’m have been using these set for around 6 months seems to me they keep dirt out and water the same as the hellbender so I’m expecting atleast 5 years for these bearings.
Sorry, no reviews match your current selections
The headset is brand new and is gritty. I swapped from an fsa non sealed so the bearings are nothing alike other than the 16000 miles on the old bike feels similar to the new bearings. i sent one email and after 10 days with no response I filled out a problem report and its been 10 days since then and no reply. I assumed if cane creek was good enough for lynskey bikes they were a quality product. And I assume mine is a fluke. I bought a headset and bottom bracket yet they cant be bothered with a response. I would assume just buying a headset would merit a reply. So after just under $200 if you want to deal with a company who is concerned about the end product as opposed to the end profit you can learn as i have to look elsewhere.

I have used Cane Creek components in the past and have been very satisfied with their products. Will definitely consider Cane Creek for my next upgrade.

I decided to upgrade a new to me 2016 Specialized Pitch and ordered this 40-Series headset with closed bearings. So far, I am very impressed and happy to have taken this route as part of my upgrade project.
