What Is ISO Testing?

ISO stands for the International Organization for Standardization – it’s a group of committees that put together standards (or tests) for a wide range of activities like making products, offering a service, testing in laboratories, vendors supplying materials, and so forth. Each standard is accepted worldwide by technical experts in their field.

The international standard for bicycles has been designed to ensure that bicycles and bicycle parts are as safe as practically possible.  ISO testing is a process that all Cane Creek products must surpass, and they must also meet our own benchmarks of quality before we bring them to market. Riding a bicycle is inherently dangerous, and rider safety is extremely important to us at Cane Creek.

Our R&D department does most of the ISO testing in our own test lab. The test lab allows us to design and create products that will exceed ISO standards. The lab also enables us to set our own standards of quality.

We also use independent third party test labs to validate our internal findings and to supplement our own testing abilities.

For example, when developing the Helm fork, we benchmarked some of our competitors that tested above ISO standards. A suspension fork is an important structural part of a mountain bike, so we knew we needed to exceed those higher standards with the Helm.

ISO testing

One benchmark for the titanium eeWings cranks was to be more durable and robust than any carbon cranks or any other option that was available. The eeWings tested far beyond the ISO standard for failure, and far beyond any other cranks we put through the same tests.

It’s important to note that counterfeit products do not undergo any ISO testing and cannot be considered safe to use. Cutting out the hard work and details is at the foundation of counterfeiting. Counterfeit products stand against everything we believe in and work toward. Read more on our Counterfeit Identification Guide Here.

We do this rigorous quality testing because we’re committed to making safe products that last, not fail. We want to enhance bike riding for anyone who trusts us with our products. Cane Creek is a company made up of cyclists, and at the end of the day we’re all in this to have fun, be safe, and to improve our lives by riding bikes.
